Hopefully that's enough information to help someone make up their mind on how they will choose to get into this series. Play both Azure Striker Gunvolt and its sequel, Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack brings both critically acclaimed Azure Striker. I'd only really recommend it if you enjoy playing as the second character in Gunvolt 2 or are a fan of MMX-likes in general. In regards to gameplay, it's pretty solid but only has one playable character. If you are interested in the story, then again you need to start with the first game, but then it tangents off from there. If you are the type who ignores the story and skips scenes just to get to the next gameplay portion, you will likely have more enjoyment with Gunvolt 2 than with Gunvolt 1.įinally, there's also the existence of the Luminous Avenger iX series, which is basically an alternate timeline spinoff. When lightning strikes, a new legend is born. However if you are only interested in gameplay, Gunvolt 2 is basically more of the same as Gunvolt 1, but with an entire second character to play as. Community Hub Azure Striker Gunvolt A 2D action game featuring a young man with the power of lightning who stands for freedom against the evil ambitions of a massive organization. Starting with Gunvolt 2 will very much leave you feeling a bit confused and out of the loop narratively. Gunvolt 2 is very much a sequel to Gunvolt 1, and so certain story elements might not make sense without the context provided by the first game. Inti-Creates have a really good track record when it comes to their story telling, as evidenced by the Zero and ZX games. Second of all, if you are interested in the story, I would definitely recommend starting with the first game. If you are familiar with those games, then you have a general idea of what you are getting into here, though it does still have it's own distinctions. This doesn't come as much of a surprise when you consider Inti-Creates also made the Zero and ZX games, and in fact I wouldn't be surprised if these games are running on the same engine. Specifically, the X, Zero, and ZX series. There's a lot of story and voice acting in this game, and the panels are particularly irritating since they block the screen and the game isn't paused.I can see that you already bought it, so I'm just going to drop this here for anyone else reading this thread because they are interested in having the same question answered:įirst of all, the game series I would most closely compare this to in regards to gameplay are the Mega Man games. Your main character level ups and gain special skills, clearing a stage with a high rank or completing quests allows you to get materials to craft equipment (and these equipment gives interesting choices like, do you want to jump three times in the air, or twice and air dash, or air dash x2, etc).Ī huge ton of replayability here, and it's not a short game.Įdit: Btw biggest trick for new players, the X button turns off all voice and TEXT PANELS that happen in the middle of a stage off. The biggest surprise for me (I bought this thinking this would just be a pure Megaman X clone) is that the focus on gameplay has been shifted from a Megaman style can-I-even-beat-this-stage to a how-well-can-I-beat-this-stage challenge. The controls are extremely tight, the design of each of the stages are very well done and each feel very different from the other with usually a different mechanic to play around with. I got bored of Mighty Gunvolt rather quickly, unless you really are into retro platformers, the only other interesting thing about it is that each of the 3 main characters you choose from have very different movesets and they have to complete the same stage in different ways.Īzure Striker Gunvolt however is fantastic.
